#MyTopFive: Paramore

Welcome to my new blog post series, #MyTopFive. Similar to Artist of the Day, #MyTopFive will be focusing on one artist of my choosing with only my top five songs of them presented along with a reasoning to why this song is important to me.

5. Rose-Colored Boy

Why? This song was my re-introduction to Paramore in the Fall of 2017. During this time, I was waking up at 4 AM from Monday to Friday to go to my internship with Breakfast Television in Downtown Toronto. I would listen to this song all the time. I’m not kidding at all when I say that this song probably was my morning BFF.

I ain’t gon’ smile if I don’t want to. Hey man, we all can’t be like you. I wish we were all rose-colored too.”

4. Misguided Ghosts

Why? This was the first song I performed in front of a crowd. I mean, not like I performed many, but I remember shaking of nervousness before auditioning for, yep you guessed it right, the HIGH SCHOOL TALENT SHOW! How cliché of me . But yeah, I sang this song in front of the kids who would bully me in my last few years in Hell and at the same time it felt amazing and scary af. For me, this song is about understanding where my place is and trying to figure out who I am and I realized that even though I chose to go to that school (a music school that I decided to go for after quitting my private Jewish school) well, it wasn’t my place there. But, it’s okay, because I was just, and still kinda am, a misguided ghost.

“Now I’m told that this is life and pain is just a simple compromise”

3. Decode

Why? I mean, I was a Twi-hard when I was 13 years old.

But you think that I can’t see. What kind of man that you are. If you’re a man at all. Well, I will figure this one out, on my own.” (SO EMO I LOVE IT)I

2. Monster

Why? This song really helped me going through my first break-up (and only break up I went through so far in my life, actually). Again, I don’t feel comfortable sharing about my ex-relationship, but this song kinda explains how I felt toward the end of it because I would see that I was becoming something I wasn’t, which I didn’t like at all. In a way, I felt I was the one becoming the monster actually.

Don’t you ever wonder how we survive? Well now that you’re gone, the world is ours.”

1. That’s What You Get

Why? I think this is the most fun, relatable and emo song that Paramore has created, and I believe it’s one of my generation’s anthem to be honest. Also, this song is how I’m feeling right now and how I usually act in the beginning of a connection with someone that I like. I like how it demonstrates so well how a you can feel vulnerable/letting that new person in your life.

“I wonder, how am I supposed to feel when you’re not here. Cause I burned every bridge I ever built when you were here.”
