New Supergirl Season 4 Trailer Introduces First Transgender Superhero

There’s more than Supergirl’s very bad ass new suit, guys!

The new trailer for Supergirl comes one month before the release of its fourth season in October. This teaser introduces us to the new character, Nia Nal (Nicole Maines) who is a newly-hired reporter at CatCo and eventually will become Dreamer, the first transgender superhero in TV.

Dreamer first appeared in 1988 in the DC Comics’ Adventure Comics #317. The character is described as a “soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others.”

In the video, Kara (Melissa Benoist) is seen talking to Nia about fear.

“Fear. No matter how much we believe in ourselves, that never really goes away. I think, ‘I’m not afraid of anything,’ but then something chases me back down the rabbit hole. But once we catch ourselves, we have to jump right back out there.”

This quote must be in relation to the ending of the third season where we see that the Harun El (black rock) split Kara in two leaving one “bad Kara” in Siberia while leaving the “good one” back in National City.
