The Amazing Benefits of Essential Oils

They smell good – I mean they really do – but what else do these little bottles do for you besides giving you a scent of heaven? Read below to find out.

Just like you, a few months ago I was clueless. Completely unaware of the benefits that these little bottles would have to my daily dose of happiness and mental health.

A couple of months ago when I first moved in my new apartment, my awesome friend/soon-to-be cousin-in-law, gifted an essential oil diffuser to me and my roommate Mel who happens to be her sister.

If you don’t know what an essential oil diffuser is, well it’s basically a machine where you mix some water with the essential oil which then evaporates leaving some amazing odors in the apartment.

Pretty awesome, am I right?

The diffuser came with six little essential oil samples: Peppermint, Tea Tree, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass and Sweet Orange. 

Essential oils are not new. For many, many years they’ve been used for medicinal and health purposes. Tbh I still remember when I was a kid and my nose would be congested when being sick – my mom would put bunch of tea tree on my pillow and I was able to breathe again from my nose as if nothing happened.

Besides the miraculous effects it has to my nose, it also has a lot of positive effects to my mental health. According to Dr. Axe’s research on the subject, some of the oils increase oxygen to your brain which will leave you feeling refreshed, focused and energized. 

The oils, including lavender as the main one for this topic, helps reducing emotional stress and anxiety.

A pilot study published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practicefound that the use of aromatherapy as a complementary therapy helped to reduce anxiety and depression scales in postpartum women. Women between zero and 18 months postpartum were divided into either a treatment group that inhaled a blend of rose and lavender essential oils or a control group that didn’t receive any type of aromatherapy. After four weeks, the women using aromatherapy had significant improvements in anxiety and depression symptoms compared to those in the control group.

Personally, one particular essential oil blessed my face with its miraculous healing effects.

Here’s the oil that I’m talking about.


You see, exactly a week ago, I had an incident with some hot oil used to deep fry dough to make my favourite donuts out of it – Sfenj, a Moroccan delicatessen <3.

So anyways, the making of said donuts didn’t go as planned and some of the hot oil splashed onto my face leaving some 1st degree burn.

Yep, my whole face was filled with red burn spots while my arm got some darker red burn spots – tbh, now thinking about it I’m pretty sure the burns on my arms were 2nd degree burns, but oh well, now they’re definitely 1st degree ones!

Thankfully, Sarah (remember, awesome friend and soon-to-be cousin-in-law?) is a nurse and just general knowledgeable person and she told me to put some of my lavender oil on a wet tissue and leave it on my face. A bit later, my aunt Sherry recommended that I just keep on applying lavender directly on my burns claiming that they would disappear in a few days.

And guess what? They were right. Most of my burns on my face are gone – just one is left compared to at least 12 burns in the beginning – and the ones on my arm still remains as well.

But still, I only applied lavender on my face and it healed my face so fast! Not only they were helping with my physical bruises but they also enhanced my mental one positively. Also, I smelled like lavender which is not a bad thing!
